Test ride after Epidural Injection

Image
Y esterday I had my first lower back Epidural injection to treat my chronic pain. I decided to go out for just a quick test ride to see if riding added to my pain. I so far am elated that riding made my back feel better not worse. I kept the ride short just to be sure I don't inflame the injection area. I am looking forward to getting out on the trike for longer rides. I rode only 3.30 mil;es at a average speed of10.94 mph and a top speed of 15.4 mph. I burnt 156 calories, not enough, but it will have to do.

Dual ride report

T his morning I loaded the trike into my SUV to go on a short group ride starting at 10:00 AM. We rode 10.81 miles with an average speed of 10.84 mph and a top speed of 15.2 mph. The weather in East Windsor was 70 degrees with the wind out of the SE at 6 mph. I burnt 510 calories. After the ride we had brunch and I headed back to my local area for another short ride. On the second ride I rode 10.65 miles with an average speed of 12.08 and a max speed of 27.2 mph which I maintained on the flats for 4 minutes. I burnt 503 calories on the second ride. The temperature was 75 degrees with the wind out of the SSE at 9 mph. All in all I rode 21.46 miles burning 1,013 calories.

Ride report

I left for my daily ride at around 12:15 and rode 13.42 miles. During the ride my average speed was 12.54 ,ph and my max speed was 23.60 mph. I burnt 633 calories on this nice leisurely ride. The temperature was 78 degrees with the wind out of the North at a brisk 15 mph. I was hoping that I would increase my average speed, but the wind has been relentless. Tomorrow I am going on a real short group ride maybe 10 or 12 miles.

Expensive Ride

I went out at 11:30 Am for my daily ride, and everything was going well until I noticed that my cell phone was not in my pocket. I immediately turned around to retrace my route, and rode back about two miles until I found the phone. A lot of good that did as my phone was rode over by a car or truck. It no longer worked so I was not in the mood to continue my ride as without a phone I would not feel secure on these country roads. I rode 9.76 miles with an average speed of 11.80 mph and a top speed of 22.3 mph. The weather was great with a temperature of 73 degrees with a wind out of the N at 6 mph. I hope I get my new phone tomorrow morning so I can ride in the afternoon. W hen I got home I rode over to Verizon Wireless to replace my phone, but was unable to as I had to call the insurance company that I have protection on the phone with. I had to pay a $50.00 deductible for a phone replacement. It is shipped out DHL so tomorrow I will have the new phone. T his morning I did some rou...

Another windy day

W ith all the days we have here in central New Jersey one would think this was the Great Plains. I left my house after having another zero fat low calorie meal of Yogurt. I am getting sick of the stuff. I rode 13.42 miles under a beautiful sunny sky but the winds were again very strong. The wind was out of the SE at 17 mph, not as bad as yesterday, but still made ridding hard. The temperature was a nice 67 degrees. I burnt 633 calories on todays ride, I am hoping that by riding every day I will loose some of my winter weight in a few weeks. Tomorrow the weather calls for rain, but they haven't been very accurate lately.

Battling Mother Nature

A fter I had my Yogurt for lunch I changed into my riding gear to head out for my daily ride. With the intention of a easy ride at a leisurely pace, I was in great spirits. When i left the house it was a little overcast, but the sun was peeking through the clouds. As I rode the winds started to increase and the temperature started to drop. The next thing I knew I was battling a constant 26 mph head wind, making riding a nightmare. I said to my self "that I wouldn't give up and continue the ride". I managed to complete one loop which is a total of 13.25 miles. My average speed was 10.71 which I felt was great while having to deal with the wind. My maximum speed was 20.0 mph. The temperature was on average 59 degrees. I burnt 626 calories which was according to the Adeo GPS but that doesn't take into account the force of the wind just the speed. I am hoping that tomorrow brings better weather, so I can get back into my summer shape.

Another day in the life of a triker

Image
T his morning after eating a simple high fiber breakfast I headed out to halters cycles to buy a pair of Shimano SH-M182 SPD shoes. While there he mounted my Speedplay Frog pedals and adjusted the position of the cleats. I gave them a quick test in the huge parking lot, and he then made the final adjustment. On my first ride today I had to play with the front two straps as it felt tight around my instep, but once adjusted they were fine. I do love the ratchet strap adjustment on the top most strap. The least expensive I could find these shoes for was $159.00 and they charged me $107.00, I got a great deal! A fter getting back home with the trike and the shoes, I unloaded the trike and went out to meet the wife for a quick lunch. After lunch I headed home and got my gear ready for my daily ride. I had a little bit of apprehension regarding the cramps I had yesterday and was still feeling today. I rode 13.27 miles at an average speed of 12.08 mph and a top speed of 22.3 Mph. I bur...

Tempting the Gods & ride report

Y esterday I decided I would go out and ride even knowing that my last tube was mounted on my severely damaged Primo Comet Kevlar tire. The inside had edges of the Kevlar pushing through the inside carcass. I started out by saying to myself "I won't go far, I will stay near home". Well after riding a few miles and the Adrenalin was pumping, I thought I saw a recumbent rider I knew far ahead of me. I started pushing to catch up, and as I came to the top of the next hill I saw him turn off onto the bike path. I said "I can catch up and we could shoot the breeze for a while". Well that didn't work out as he turned off on to one of the most heavily traveled roads in the area. And it was loaded with trucks and cars so it was hard to catch up. After a few minutes I realized I was a long way from home and I had this bad tire, so I started back. When I reached home I saw that I had not only went out with a real bad tire, I hadn't put my flag on the trike. I wond...

First Ride of the season

W ell it was 12:00 PM when I decided that today would be my first ride of the season. I was very concerned as my lower back was giving me a lot of pain, and I just received an OK from the doctors regarding my medications and me riding again. I didn't want to push my luck so I figured I would take it a little easy at first. I had no leg pain or back pain at all and rode 10.8 miles at an average speed of 10.43 mph and a top speed of 24.5 mph. The weather was great with a temperature of 74 degrees and a wind of 10 mph from the NW. I not expecting to ride tomorrow as rain is expected. Great to be back riding again.

My Status and why no posts!

I have not had a ride update because I have not been out on the trike in a while. My doctor changed my medications and I have been in sort of a rut. One doctor changed my pain killer which takes a week for my body to adjust, my other doctor changed another medication that takes 14 days for me to adjust. So all in all I am screwed up to say the least. I am in a constant fog for the last few days with horrible headaches. Last night the headache was so bad I just shut the lights and went to sleep. I hope to be out on the trike in the next week or so, and then I will continue posting.

Short but needed ride

Image
T oday I went out for a 10.07 mile run, and had an interesting and needed ride. I burnt 472 calories in 48 minutes. My max speed was 27.10 while my average speed was 12.41, a little below average for me. The weather was a warm 84 degrees with the wind out of the SSE at 9 mph. I didn't ride for a few days so my back was hurting real bad, so the ride helped a huge amount. W hat made this ride very interesting is that my Adeo GPS Trainer went completely haywire. Every second it was reading out my average speed in pace like a runner would need. I finally had to turn off the speakers and then turn it on to get my final result. I am sure that the great people at MotionLingo will stand behind their great product. I only have praise for them and the Adeo. A bove is a picture of one of the places I visited today.

Great riding weather!

Image
M et two other riders this morning at 9:15 for a 21.19 mile tour of the four local towns. The ride was very leisurely and lasted 1Hr53Min. My average speed was a slow 11.21 mph and a max speed of 24.40 mph. I burnt 1026 calories during this slow ride. The weather for today was 80 degrees with a wind out of the ENE at 9 mph with some gusts that hit 14 mph. All in all a good ride with great riding friends.

Excellent day in the neighborhood!

S tarted out at 11:00 AM for a run through Kendall Park and South Middlebush Road which is my local route. I rode for 1hour 10minutes and 32seconds and covered 15.33 miles. My average speed was 13.04 mph with a max speed of 25.10 mph. I burnt 742 calories and feel great. I love to ride because under normal circumstances my back feels great and the pain stays away for a while. The weather conditions were as follows: Wind Direction: South Wind Speed: 7 Mph Temperature: 88 degrees . Not sure about riding tomorrow, but I sure am going to do my best to get out and ride.

Local Ride Report.

Image
T oday I rode my local loop and planned on only ten miles, but did 13.28 with and an average speed of 13.28 and a max speed of 23.20 mph. I burnt 643 calories in one hour and eleven seconds. Today was the first time in months that I have obtained my desired weight, it is cause for celebration. Y esterdays post I spoke about my new feline Dylan a Desert Lynx which I said he was 9 weeks old, which he is. A few people questioned me regarding this, but facts are facts. He can grow to 25 lbs at one year old. After that I don't think they get any bigger.

Local low impact workout

S tarted riding at 12:00 Pm today and rode 13.32 miles and burnt 645 calories. The ride was low impact at an average speed of 12.20 and a max speed of 23.40 mph. I rode for 1hour 5minutes and 40seconds. The weather was nice with a temperature of 85 degrees with a constant wind of 12 mph. O ur new 9 month Desert Lynx is doing very well and adjusting to his new home. He is very lovable and loves attention. Very playful and makes us all laugh a huge amount.

He is cute and very playful. A Desert Lynx is a cross between a Bob Cat and a Domestic.

Good but windy ride

T oday has been my first ride in days do to extremely bad weather, it did nothing but rain for days. I rode 15.04 miles in 1hr9min44sec and burnt 728 calories. The wind was very strong at 15+ miles per hour. The temperature was a humid 90 degrees. My average speed was 12.95 mph with a max speed of 27.10 mph. I am hopping to have some more nice days next week in order to ride.

Broke my own speed record on the flats.

T his morning I got a jump on the heat by starting my ride earlyand I rode 21.12 miles in one hour 35 minutes and 47 seconds. I rode my usual South Middlebush Road loop two times and sprinted on the flats. Today my top record speed on a flat rode was 29.20 mph. My average speed was 13.24 mph and I burnt 1023 calories. The weather temperature was 89 degrees with winds from the WSW at 8-20 mph. I would love to try the sprint on a day without wind, but I haven't had a day like that. Y esterday I did a very stupid thing! My lower back was acting up so in my ultimate wisdom I decided to take my pain medication directly before I was going out to ride. What a huge error that was. Lucky for me Alayne called and while I was talking to her I just fogged out. She made a remark to me which made me realize that it would be stuppid to ride in this condition. So Icalled off the ride, which was the smartest thing to do.

Very strong winds but a satisfying ride!

A t 12:00 I started my ride from home and rode 17.02 miles before I was forced to return because of a nasty rash. I have never had a groin rash before, and it is painful and itchy, I am not sure if it is just heat rash or a fungus rash like jock itch. I am using an anti-fungus cream and hope it gets better soon. I always use powder when I ride, so I was surprised I have it. My average speed on this ride was 12.50 mph and a top speed of 21.10, I felt like I was riding in mud because the strong winds on my up hills slowed me down a huge amount. The gusts were higher than 23 mph and the temperature was 92 degrees. Total length of this ride was one hour and twenty one minutes, and I burnt 824 calories, that evens out the Peanut and Jelly sandwich I had for lunch. Y esterday I ordered a set of helmet speakers which I would like to try out, I think if they work it would save me the pain of recharging batteries. I will post my results.

Todays Ride Report

A t 2:00 PM I started my daily ride and in one hour thirty three minutes I rode 20.34 miles and burnt 985 calories. The weather was a very nice 89 degrees with winds form the NNE at 6-10 mph. My average speed was 13.09 mph while my max speed was 23.20 mph. I took a slightly different route to avoid the newly patched road that gave me so much problems the other day. I guess in a few days all the loose chipseal will be gone and I can reuse the road.
