Another perfect riding day

Headed out a little later this morning as I had some work around the house. I rode 10.15 miles in 48:36 minutes at an average speed of 12.4 mph and a max speed of 23.0 mph. I burnt 536 calories and my average heart rate was 131 bpm while my max heart rate was 159 bpm.  The temperature was 77℉ with the wind was variable at 6 mph. My full ride stats are posted below, click "View Details" to see the complete ride.

Glorious day for a ride.

I got up this morning with my jets burning on high. I decided that today would be a great day for a extended ride. The weather was very cool making riding conditions great. I choose the extended route along Canal Road that runs parallel to the Raritan Canal for a nice short bit. The roads leading up to the canal consist of rolling hills and some moderate down hill runs. The ride away from the canal is all up hill. I rode 15.61 miles in 1:14:18 hours at an average speed of 12.6 mph and a max speed of 27.8 mph. I burnt 798 calories and my heart rate was 137 bpm average while my max heart rate was 167 bpm. The temperature was 74℉ with the wind from the North at 8 mph with gusts to 15 mph.My ride info from Garmin is listed below.

Strong Winds Presist, but great ride

T his morning I was hyped to ride and headed out the door after breakfast. The strong head winds were still present, but I pushed on.  The weather was just perfect!  The temperature was a beautiful 74℉ and the winds were variable from 8 mph to 18 mph.  I rode my extended route which was 12.06 miles. My average speed was 12.5 mph and my max speed was 23.9 mph.  I burnt 654 calories and my heart-rate was 134 bpm average and 162 bpm max.  My elevation gain was 309 feet.  All and all a great workout. Journal of a fustrated triker!

O ne of the main reasons for biking/triking is the health benefits. As a person living with chronic back and neck pain I know how much body weight effects my pain level.  I try very hard to maintain my weight to within a two pound range.  I also know that I gain a little after eating out during the weekend and this weekend was no different. But when I awoke this morning and did my usual weighing in, I found I had gained three pounds. To say the least I wasn't happy but I said to myself "I will not let this ruin my day".  After breakfast I filled my water bottle and headed out for my ride. The temperature was a fantastic 68℉ and a slight breeze. I headed out with not a care in the world and a good attitude. I slowly made my way past housing developments and open farm land expecting the ride to be uneventful. I was now about one mile from home when the wind started to pick up to a strong head wind.  The wind was so strong at times I could barely move up the hills.  I pus

Short local ride

I started out this morning planning on just a short local ride do to a very likely chance of thunder storms.  I rode at a leisurely pace of 12.3 mph and a top speed of 22.8 mph. I rode for 29:19 minutes and burnt 321 calories. My total miles covered was 6.02 miles. My total elevation gain was 155 feet and my heart rate was 132 bpm average and a max heart rate of 152 bpm. The skies were very cloudy with a few rain drops, and a temperature of 77℉.  Below is my Garmin Connect info. Click on view details for more info.

First ride in a long time.

W ell I hit the road today to try and get back into shape. Boy do I need to exercise more, I am beat. I ran my usual training course today, but I encountered strong winds, making some parts of the ride real hard. I covered 10.06 miles in 47:20 minutes. My top speed was 22.5 mph and my average speed was 12.7 mph. I burnt 608 calories and my heart rate on average was 152 bpm. The temperature was 82℉ with winds from the WNW at 18 mph gusting to 23 mph. You can click on the details below for more info.

Fustrated triker (just a little rnat)

I have been having a very hard time getting out to ride and I am getting very frustrated. I have been having contractors working at my home repairing damage from the huge March storm. So for months I have been home baby sitting workers. I have learned from experience that you have to keep an eye on workers to make sure things get done without cutting corners. In general most contractors are highly reliable, but during very hot or cold weather corners get cut to get the jobs done. Well now that the last worker left my home yesterday I was free to ride. So I awoke this morning planning to ride. I had my bike gear on and after breakfast I put on the heart rate monitor and headed out the door. I rode no more that 500 foot from the house and it started to rain. I headed home and put my street cloths on.  It was 1:45 PM and the street was dry and the sun was bright in the sky, so I put on my bike cloths and again headed out the door. I got a block or so away from home when the wind picked u

New rear wheel for the Black Widow

Image
Y esterday I ordered a replacement for my Black Widows rear wheel. I choose a near bulletproof wheel by Velocity. The model is the Chukker deep V. It has a all black rim, black spokes and a black hub. Most wheels other than Disc brake wheels have a machined brake surface. Since the trike has neither disc or caliper brakes an all black wheel with no machined side walls was possible.  So Halters Cycle spoke to Velocity and they are custom making me a wheel with 32 spokes.  Yes this wheel is a little heavier, but it will take a beating, which with the condition of the roads here is very important.   As far as any speed loss, I am not sure how much the weight will effect me.  I am sure it is less weight than my current wheel, so I might see a slight increase in speed.  The wheel will take two to three weeks to get here, I am looking forward to getting it mounted.  I originally planned on the Aerospoke wheel, but found out that I couldn't get it with out the machined sides and if ordere

Schwalbe Tire Update July 3

Image
Y esterday July 3rd I received the Marathon tire I ordered on Amazon.com.  So if all goes well I will go to my LBS and get a new tube and have it filled with Tru-Goo.   While I am there I will have the tire mounted.  I will be glad to get on the road again.  To be honest the next few days are going to be near 100℉, so ridding might be hard.  I intend to try, and if I don't do as many miles as I hope to so what!  I spoke to Schwalbe regarding the replacement and was told a container is due to arrive in two weeks. If the tire is not on that container it will not come until late August.  I hope it comes soon as I would have preferred to mount the two new tires and save the older as a spare. D uring my non ridding time I had time to make a few modifications. 1. Removed the fenders. (I prefer the clean look) I also don't ride in bad weather. 2. I designed and fabricated a new computer sensor mount to replace the mount on the fender.
