A Storm is Brewing!

Image
T he clouds are as thick as I have ever seen them, and it is dark very dark. I know the so called "FrtankinStorm" is on the way up the coast, but this looks bad. I rode my usual route, and feel real good. Now it's time for house cleaning. My first two tubes showed up yesterday, and the tires will be here on the 29th if the storm doesn't delay it.

Nice ride on an ugly day

Image
H eaded out at my normal time, but the weather looked horrible.  I no longer can depend on the local weather reports as they have not been correct in weeks.  Garmin Connect still seems to be having problems in displaying maps on external sites such as this.  They did maintenance yesterday and now maps don't show.  I reported it so maybe, maybe someone will figure it out. My ride stats are below.

South Middlebush Road Local Training Route by joelw135 at Garmin Connect - Details

I headed out late as the weather was very iffy.   I had a great ride so no loss.  Garmin Connect is having a problem with it's maps again.

Short ride do to rain!

Got up a few minutes later so my ride started late. No big deal, but it started to rain at five miles.  Lucky for me the five miles was near home, so I headed there as quick as possible.  I installed my new tail light CygoLite Hotshot and I am very impressed with its brightness.  My ride stats are below.

Nice Ride but strong winds.

Rode a little early today as the winds were picking up. I ordered new tires and tubes, but have to call and change tube sizes as I made an error. My ride stats are below.

The Sunday overindulge ride!

W ell it is the "Sunday morning overindulge ride." Last night like every Saturday night I went out for dinner and slightly overindulged.  I always do it and feel it on Sunday. Not a big thing, just means I have to ride harder for a few days to remove the extra weight.  I still had a good ride and enjoy my time out on the trike.  It gives me a lot of time to think, and relax.  Well maybe not relax as that isn't in my nature.  My new tail light was shipped, but the tracking number is still not active, so I doubt I will get it on Tuesday as promised. My ride stats are below.

I feel great!

Y esterday I went to the Pain Clinic for my shots in my Lumbar Spine, and today I feel so much better.  I rode my usual course and had little pain at all.  It didn't improve my performance, but it made for a enjoyable ride. My new head light is working fine, but the tail light is just about seen its last minutes.  My ride stats are below.

Great day for a ride

T his mornings ride was very pleasing, as there was little wind and the temperature was just right.  I had more problems with my tail light and ordered a Cygolite Hotshot 2-Watt USB Rechargeable Taillight with USB Cable and Charger.  The weakness of the light I ordered is the mounting screw, but a Nylock will solve that.  My stats are below.

All in All a good ride

T his morning I got a late start to my ride and was surprised it did have a effect on my performance.  I usually ride right after breakfast and my performance seems better, I have more energy. Of course this could all be just my mental perception.  Well the wind was not as strong as yesterday, but the ride felt harder.  I did have a good time riding, and look forward to more rides.  The trike needs to be brought in for a chain cleaning and gear adjustment, but that will be later on when it is to cold to ride.  My new headlight came yesterday and I installed it, it is nice and bright.  I had a problem with the mount slowly tilting forward on bumps, which was very annoying, but I added a rubber shim when I got home, so it should be fine now.  My ride stats are below.

The wind is my ememy!!!!

"The wind is my enemy" I feel that is the perfect title for today's entry.  The sky was clear the temperature was a little brisk, but not bad.  The wind on the other hand was totally out of control.  The gusts were at times so strong I felt them pushing against my chest like a lead weight. There were hills where I thought I would have to dismount and push the trike up.  Well I didn't and my legs feel like rubber.  There was one road on the entire trip that the wind wasn't against me, and I am grateful for that. My stats are below:

Garmin Edge Problems Yesterday

Y esterday I rode over 7 miles, but when I went to upload from my Edge I had a corrupt file.  I was unable to save it.  It seems like Garmin has a problem when other rides are left on the memory.  I will call them today.  Today I rode another 7 miles, and cut it short do to bad weather. My stats are below, as this time the Garmin was empty at start.

Nice ride on a cool day

I rode my usual route, but I was not prepared for the cold that I felt. My legs and feet were warm as well as my hands, but my body and arms were cold.  I need to buy a base layer.  I have a face Gator so that is covered also. Nothing new to report so this will be short. My stats are below.

Took Local streets do to severe wind!

W hen I woke this morning the temperature was a little cool, but the forecast called for warming by 11:00 AM.  Well at 10:45 the sky was dark and the winds started blowing.  I checked the forecast again and there was a severe wind warning.  I decided to stay local and get as many miles in as I could.  The wind gusts were 30+ mph and making things real hard. I pushed myself as hard as I could and made 6 miles before I called it a day.  This goofy weather is getting on my nerves.  I need, yes need to get as many miles in before it is to cold to ride. My ride stats are below:

I took a beating but I am still ticking!

T oday's ride was a beating, and the wind won.  The winds were blowing out of the NW at a steady 13 to 18 mph and I was having a real hard time. Part of the problem was that along with the winds came the leaves blowing in my face.  The temperature was in the very low 50s, but I was dressed for it.  I am tired, but yet I still feel good.  My tail light worked fine, but the batteries in my head light went dead, so I will open the pack today and replace them. I noticed a slight crack in the tread of my front right tire, so I know that soon a new set of tires will be added to the list.  My stats are below.

Short ride do to rain

I got up this morning and viewed the weather forecast, and decided to head out as early as possible.  I left my home and the sun was shinning, but before I got 1/4 mile from the house the dark clouds covered the sky from horizon to horizon.  I felt it would be prudent to stay local.  So round and round I went up and down my local streets.  Speed was impossible as there were cars and sharp turns at each corner.  Under normal riding conditions I wouldn't care about sharp turns, but these turns were into busy streets.  At least I got to ride, that is all that is important.  It has been bad weather around here for days.  I installed the new tail light after taking it apart and realigning the Lasers that were installed improperly.  Once I got that task done I reassembled it and tested it out.  I was lucky the first alignment was correct.  I am loving my Garmin Edge 500, once I got accustomed to the different operating procedure things were much easier.  When I get a chance I will take

Short Test Ride

Tested the cadence sensor, and all is working as it should. Ride stats below.

Great ride under dark clouds

I headed out as early as I could as the weather called for rain.  I wasn't able to complete my full ride as it started to pour and I made it home just in time for the downpour.  All in all it was a great ride and I was glad to get the ride in as the season is getting shorter. I rode 9.20 miles using the new ANT+ speed sensor and it seemed very consistent.  I still don't trust the elevation sensor, but I just set the base elevation yesterday, so it takes time to calibrate. My cadence sensor is going to be delivered today, that is what USPS estimated.  We shall see.  My ride stats are below: UPDATE: The Cadence Sensor and the Anti Glare screen protector showed up this afternoon.  I installed the Screen Protector and the Cadence sensor, so far no problems.  The Garmin Edge 500 recognized the Cadence sensor and I then mounted it to the boom.  A few turns of the crank and the Cadence was registered on the Garmin.  Tomorrow I will ride and test it out, depending on the weather.

Can't get a break!!!!

W ent out to ride this morning, but the weather was not on my side.  After I was a half mile from home it started to rain, so I headed back.  The cycling Gods have not been very helpful this week.  I wanted to test the speed sensor, but so far it works fine.  The elevation was way off on the Garmin so I had to set the elevation in the GPS so tomorrow I will check for accuracy. My short ride stats are below.

Technical Issues yesterday and partial issue today

Y esterdays ride was great until the cadence sensor failed on the Sigma, then after doing my 10.25 miles I turned off the Garmin Edge 500 and the file became corrupt and I was unable to recover the ride.  Today I rode and the file was intact, so I sum it up to possible user error. The cadence sensor is still broken, so if the new ANT+ speed sensor I receive today works, I will save and purchase a Ant+ cadence sensor. My ride stats are below. UPDATE: After today's failure of the cadence sensor I did some searching on EBay and found a compatible ANT+ Cadence sensor made by Nightrider.  The price was great and it was brand new.  The owner and Nightrider support say it will work with the Garmin Edge 500.  I also found the Edge 500 to have a very reflective screen which makes it hard to see in bright sunlight, so I ordered a Lexerd Anti-Glare screen protector.  I am hoping the protector will make viewing easier. T he speed sensor came and I installed it this afternoon, and the 500 p
