Fantastic day for a ride.


At 12:00 PM I left the comfort of my house to get in a daily ride, and I must say it was a "fabulous day for just that". The temperature at the start of my ride was 55 degrees with a slight cool breeze, at the end of the ride the temperature was 66 degrees with a steady wind from the WSW at 10 mph. I used my South Middlebush Road loop plus I added local roads to extend the ride to 15.56 miles. My average speed was 12.63 with a top speed of 24.1 mph. I burnt 734 calories in one hour and 14 minutes. The trike handled well, but I can see I need to add some inflation to my front tires as they seem unevenly inflated. That will wait until tomorrow, as I will also wipe the chain down at that time.

Yesterday I ordered a Delta Universal rack as the one I have is odd shaped and heavier. It was shipped today from Ohio, so I have no idea how long until I receive it. Last week I ordered four low discharge AAA batteries for my on board speaker system which I use for my Adeo GPS Trainer and my MP3 player.

I am hopping that the weather is still good for tomorrows ride as I need the constant flow of Endorphins. I had my first Epidural shot last week and I will have another at the end of this month. I hope I get good results. I have now been going to the Pain Control Center of New Jersey for a good 5 years with great results, so I have no reason to expect the same with this series of shots.

First ride of the season

This morning I took my first ride of the season I went the back roads to Etra Lake park and road the sandy trail, it isn't a suitable ride for a trike. There were areas that were so sandy that the tires just wouldn't grip so I was forced to ride the grass on the edge. I then left the park and road local roads back home. I then came home to meet my wife for a 2.5 mile walk. I had some bad leg cramps while riding but worked through them.

What's new and service report.

I won't be riding today as my back went out on me today after unloading the trike from the Santa Fe. It usually goes back to normal in a day or so. I am hoping it is back in by tomorrow as the weather looks very promising for a ride. Wednesday looks like there will be rain and another day of no riding. But I will wait it out. Thursday and Friday will not be riding days as my son David is going into the hospital for Crohns surgery. We are hoping that all goes well and he is out of the hospital this weekend. Most depends if his pain is tolerable and he is able to eat and clear his bowels. T his morning I intended to ride but while shifting gears my front dérailleurs cable snapped. Not sure what caused it but I loaded the trike in the Santa Fe and headed for Halters Cycle in South Brunswick for a quick repair. Technical Issues yesterday and partial issue today

Y esterdays ride was great until the cadence sensor failed on the Sigma, then after doing my 10.25 miles I turned off the Garmin Edge 500 and the file became corrupt and I was unable to recover the ride.  Today I rode and the file was intact, so I sum it up to possible user error. The cadence sensor is still broken, so if the new ANT+ speed sensor I receive today works, I will save and purchase a Ant+ cadence sensor. My ride stats are below. UPDATE: After today's failure of the cadence sensor I did some searching on EBay and found a compatible ANT+ Cadence sensor made by Nightrider.  The price was great and it was brand new.  The owner and Nightrider support say it will work with the Garmin Edge 500.  I also found the Edge 500 to have a very reflective screen which makes it hard to see in bright sunlight, so I ordered a Lexerd Anti-Glare screen protector.  I am hoping the protector will make viewing easier.
