Ride report and project update

This morning I headed out early for my daily ride in-order to beat the heat. We are expecting the temperature to be at least 91 degrees this afternoon. The riding conditions were very good, there was a constant breeze of 8mph from the North West. I rode 13.72 miles at an average speed of 12.29mph and a max speed of 23.2mph. I burnt 639 calories during this short ride. During the ride I checked the Adeo GPS Trainer audio readout against that of my Sigma 1606L computer and in most incidences they were within 1 tenth of a mile. I am extremely happy with my Adeo and I am looking forward to future updates.

My speaker problems continue. As I have posted before I have had sound problems with any speaker system I use on the trike. I believe the problem is related to the bouncing around and the massive amounts of pollen and dust that is getting into the volume control. If I jiggle the volume control it clears up, but in a short time it is fouled up. I decided to invest and purchase the I-Ride Bicycle Audio system from
Active Tunes. The speaker system consists of a 1 watt amplified stereo speaker which can mount to your handlebars. Obliviously this will not work on my trike, so I will have to design a mount. The unit works on three AAA cells and comes with a carry pouch. I didn't realize I could have ordered from Active Tunes directly, so I bought them from J&R Music in NYC. They are sitting on a UPS truck on the way here as I write this. It should be here today so I will work on the mount.

UPDATE: I received the the I-Ride a few minutes after posting the above text. I modified the mount that came with the I-Ride so that I was able to mount it directly on the rear rack. The sound is so much better than any of the other speakers I purchased. I am happy that I took a chance and bought these. I would have saved some cash if I had bought them earlier. Replacing the batteries on this unit will be much easier than on my other speakers.

First ride of the season

This morning I took my first ride of the season I went the back roads to Etra Lake park and road the sandy trail, it isn't a suitable ride for a trike. There were areas that were so sandy that the tires just wouldn't grip so I was forced to ride the grass on the edge. I then left the park and road local roads back home. I then came home to meet my wife for a 2.5 mile walk. I had some bad leg cramps while riding but worked through them.

What's new and service report.

I won't be riding today as my back went out on me today after unloading the trike from the Santa Fe. It usually goes back to normal in a day or so. I am hoping it is back in by tomorrow as the weather looks very promising for a ride. Wednesday looks like there will be rain and another day of no riding. But I will wait it out. Thursday and Friday will not be riding days as my son David is going into the hospital for Crohns surgery. We are hoping that all goes well and he is out of the hospital this weekend. Most depends if his pain is tolerable and he is able to eat and clear his bowels. T his morning I intended to ride but while shifting gears my front dérailleurs cable snapped. Not sure what caused it but I loaded the trike in the Santa Fe and headed for Halters Cycle in South Brunswick for a quick repair. Technical Issues yesterday and partial issue today

Y esterdays ride was great until the cadence sensor failed on the Sigma, then after doing my 10.25 miles I turned off the Garmin Edge 500 and the file became corrupt and I was unable to recover the ride.  Today I rode and the file was intact, so I sum it up to possible user error. The cadence sensor is still broken, so if the new ANT+ speed sensor I receive today works, I will save and purchase a Ant+ cadence sensor. My ride stats are below. UPDATE: After today's failure of the cadence sensor I did some searching on EBay and found a compatible ANT+ Cadence sensor made by Nightrider.  The price was great and it was brand new.  The owner and Nightrider support say it will work with the Garmin Edge 500.  I also found the Edge 500 to have a very reflective screen which makes it hard to see in bright sunlight, so I ordered a Lexerd Anti-Glare screen protector.  I am hoping the protector will make viewing easier.
