Waiting, waiting & Searching!


Sometime today I am expecting the UPS truck to drop off the package from ActionBent. This package contains the Dura-Ace index bar-end shifters, 20" x 1.25" tube and the neck-rest. Once I have the box I can arrange installation of the replacement shifters.

As my past days blog reported, I had ordered a set of black Nashbar Day Trekker panniers using Amazon's Nashbar store front. I should have ordered directly from Nashbar bike direct. I didn't realize that when you order from Amazon store the order is not transmitted to Nashbar for a few days. That was a big mistake on my behalf. Oh well just another week or so waiting for the delivery to arrive.

I plan to spend a few hours today trying to find a few safety items I need to acquire. One will require a few phone calls to different recumbent stores around the country. The second requires a few emails sent out.
The first is a GreenSpeed safety flag, it is an orange triangle flag mounted on an orange Fiberglas 6' pole. The second is two LED bike 5 LED headlamps. I have already sent out a few emails to EBay vendors asking what combined shipping will cost. I received one answer that made no sense at all, the answer related nothing about shipping.

First ride of the season

This morning I took my first ride of the season I went the back roads to Etra Lake park and road the sandy trail, it isn't a suitable ride for a trike. There were areas that were so sandy that the tires just wouldn't grip so I was forced to ride the grass on the edge. I then left the park and road local roads back home. I then came home to meet my wife for a 2.5 mile walk. I had some bad leg cramps while riding but worked through them.

What's new and service report.

I won't be riding today as my back went out on me today after unloading the trike from the Santa Fe. It usually goes back to normal in a day or so. I am hoping it is back in by tomorrow as the weather looks very promising for a ride. Wednesday looks like there will be rain and another day of no riding. But I will wait it out. Thursday and Friday will not be riding days as my son David is going into the hospital for Crohns surgery. We are hoping that all goes well and he is out of the hospital this weekend. Most depends if his pain is tolerable and he is able to eat and clear his bowels. T his morning I intended to ride but while shifting gears my front dérailleurs cable snapped. Not sure what caused it but I loaded the trike in the Santa Fe and headed for Halters Cycle in South Brunswick for a quick repair. Technical Issues yesterday and partial issue today

Y esterdays ride was great until the cadence sensor failed on the Sigma, then after doing my 10.25 miles I turned off the Garmin Edge 500 and the file became corrupt and I was unable to recover the ride.  Today I rode and the file was intact, so I sum it up to possible user error. The cadence sensor is still broken, so if the new ANT+ speed sensor I receive today works, I will save and purchase a Ant+ cadence sensor. My ride stats are below. UPDATE: After today's failure of the cadence sensor I did some searching on EBay and found a compatible ANT+ Cadence sensor made by Nightrider.  The price was great and it was brand new.  The owner and Nightrider support say it will work with the Garmin Edge 500.  I also found the Edge 500 to have a very reflective screen which makes it hard to see in bright sunlight, so I ordered a Lexerd Anti-Glare screen protector.  I am hoping the protector will make viewing easier.
